Style Guide

When referring to awards from The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence business program, please follow these guidelines:

  • Reference to “The Shingo Prize” as an award is reserved for the highest level of recognition and is to be used by recipients of “The Shingo Prize.”
  • Organizations awarded Shingo Silver or Bronze Medallions should be referred to as “Shingo Silver or Bronze Medallion recipients.”
  • Awards received for a book, published article, case study or publication should be referred to as a “Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award.”
  • Reference to the word “Prize” in conjunction with a medallion, person, book or publication, for example; “Shingo Prize Silver Medallion” or “John Doe’s book awarded The Shingo Prize” is not authorized and such usage is discouraged.
  • When referring to The Shingo Prize as an organization, please use “The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence.”
  • The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence is administered by the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University.
